Harbor seals have large eyes that allow them to see in deep and dark water. Before a dive, they exhale (unlike humans- who inhale.) They're able to hunt fish as deep as 600 feet and stay underwater for as long as 30 minutes. Pups teach themselves to hunt. In fact, mothers leave their young to fend for themselves only a month after giving birth! Talk about independence.
